The New York State legislative session kicked off in Albany this month with just one elected democratic socialist in office, State Senator Julia Salazar. Today we’re joined by Jabari Brisport to discuss about how the NYC-DSA squad plans to change that in 2021. Jabari is one of the 5 NYC-DSA endorsed candidates running for New York State Senate and Assembly: Zohran Mamdani - Assembly District 36, Boris Santos - Assembly District 54, Marcela Mitaynes - Assembly District 51, and Phara Souffrant - Assembly District 57. NYC DSA has also endorsed Samelys Lopez for Congressional District 15. Jabari hasn’t just been knocking doors for himself, he’s also been talking to New Yorkers about that other democratic socialists everyone’s been talking about: Bernie Sanders.
