Politics extends well beyond the ballot box, but elections represent their own site of struggle; a unique opportunity to expose the contradictions between our idealized democracy and its material reality of capitalist exploitation and hierarchical domination. After the self-declared democratic socialist’s unprecedentedly successful run at the presidency in 2016, Bernie Sanders is back. This time with a vastly more organized working class movement behind him. Today we’re joined by DSA member Wes Higgins to discuss the emergence of democratic socialist politics in the United States, the state of Bernie’s campaign, and how to get involved.
You’re listening to Revolutions Per Minute on WBAI, a socialist radio show and podcast from members of New York City Democratic Socialists of America. The Democratic Socialists of America is the largest socialist organization in the United States, with 56,000 members nationwide and NYC-DSA is its biggest chapter.
